Council Tax Support scheme

How the Council Tax Support scheme from 1 April 2025 works

Our Council Tax Support scheme for working age people uses a simple system of income bands to assess your award. The scheme for pensioners remains unchanged.

The income band system gives you a percentage reduction on your Council Tax bill based on your household income. Extra allowances are allowed for households with children.

The Council Tax Support scheme for 2025/26 has changed. The maximum award that can be received in each income band (the discount) is lower than the discount provided in the 2024/25 scheme.

Changes to income within an income band will not result in a change in the Council Tax Support award.

We will not issue notification letters on your claim if you report a change in circumstances that does not result in a change to your Council Tax Support award.
