When a petition is received, we will do the following

Initial Review

We will check:

• that the petition meets our criteria (e.g. not duplicate, vexatious, or outside council control)
• the number of valid signatures

Acknowledgement

You will be contacted within 10 working days to confirm:

• whether the petition is valid
• what action will be taken

Response Based on Signature Count

• 0–1,499 valid signatures - you will receive a formal response from the relevant council department.
• 1,500 or more valid signatures - the petition will be referred to Democratic Services and scheduled for a public debate at an Overview and Scrutiny Committee or full Council meeting.
