Permission for alterations and improvements

If you would like to make any alterations and improvements, you must get our written permission to carry out improvements to your home.

We will not unreasonably withhold our permission but will consider the impact the proposed alteration would have in terms of safety and compliance, any costs of removal or reinstatement if you were to move out and the impact on other residents.

We will include conditions in the permit that you must keep to.

We could make you reinstate any works at your own expense which are done without our permission or not in line with the conditions in the permit. We may also take action against your tenancy.

If you are considering alterations, some common examples where we will not or may grant permission are:

The Council will not give permission for:  You should ask permission for:
Extensions  Replacing garden fences
Loft conversions  External CCTV
Dividing a shared porch or path  Bathroom and kitchen replacements
Removing chimney breasts  Garden landscaping and outbuildings
Dividing a room or removing a wall
  Conservatories and lean-tos
Installation of electrical light fittings, plugs and ceiling fans
Any alterations aside from painting and decorating

There is more information in our Conditions of Tenancy and Policies and Procedures.
