Employment Service Passport between NHS and Local Government

From 1 April 2025 a new Employment Service Passport between NHS and Local Government London employers will recognise continuous service.

This agreement has been brought in to help staff in London local government, including community and voluntary controlled schools, to apply for jobs in the NHS and vice-versa without having to make a decision about giving up some accrued benefits.

This will apply for the following for all appointments after 1 April 2025:

  • contractual annual leave in excess of statutory annual leave
  • occupational sick pay
  • occupational maternity pay
  • occupational shared parental leave pay

Your reckonable service will be preserved. Statutory rights remain unchanged and it won’t apply to redundancy and severance.

Please see the GLPC circular for more information and the small print!

What do I need to do?

Nothing at this stage, but if you are successful in your application we will capture your NHS service as part of the job offer and your new starter arrangements.
