Barking and Dagenham is a New Kind of Council. Over the past four years we have gone through an ambitious transformation programme to ensure we can deliver real change with our community. This has seen us transform the council and the way we deliver our Public Realm services to our residents.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for several frontline Waste and Recycling roles within the Public Realm division that provide invaluable cleansing of the Borough to help make Barking and Dagenham a great place to live, work and visit. In particular, we are looking to recruit Drivers and Refuse Loaders.

As a division and as an organisation we pride ourselves on being a collaborative and inclusive employer that believes in developing staff to help them achieve their best. LGV Drivers 

Salary: £25,137 to £26,520

Location: Various

Hours: 35 per week, full-time, permanent

Planned number of positions: 2

To be part of a team proving waste collection services to the residents of the Borough. You will be responsible for the vehicle, passengers and load of the refuse collection vehicle complying with the relevant transport, waste, and Health & safety legislation at all times.

Loaders 

Salary: £21,408 to 21,795

Location: Various

Hours per week: 35, full time, permanent

Planned number of positions: 19

To be part of a team proving waste collection services to the residents of the Borough. To comply with the relevant transport, waste, and Health & safety legislation at all times reporting to the driver/office staff any issues preventing and hindering collections.

About the ideal candidiate

All candidates will need to show a track record of delivering high quality services and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and high levels of customer service. You will be expected to work with a degree of flexibility to ensure that the service is maintained during operational difficulties or special events.

If you are committed and passionate about delivering great customer service and have the skills, qualifications, and a good understanding of refuse & recycling collections, we would welcome an application from you. Embracing technological advancements within the industry is essential along with a positive drive towards promoting a positive health & safety culture.

Contractual conditions of all roles

To ensure high levels of service, you may be required to work public holidays excluding Christmas Day and you will be on standby to deal with emergencies. This will not prevent individual staff members from not working on any public holiday, provided adequate cover is available to meet the needs of the service on that day. Staff will be paid the appropriate Council’s enhancements for working bank holidays.

Drivers - A valid Cat C driving license and drivers CPC are essential requirements for this role.  Both roles are classed as Safety Critical and are subject to Drug and Alcohol testing.
