Two of Barking and Dagenham’s senior councillors have been shortlisted for the prestigious LGiU and CCLA’s Councillor Achievement Awards 2017.

Council Leader, Cllr Darren Rodwell has been nominated for Leader of the Year, while Cllr Maureen Worby, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health Integration, is in the running for the Health and Care Award.

The LGiU and CCLA’s Councillor Achievement Awards celebrate the important work of councillors across England and Wales.

Councillor colleagues, local MPs and residents were invited to nominate candidates for the various award categories from May to September, before the final shortlist was announced this week.

The judging panel will now convene to decide the winners, before the awards ceremony on 7 November 2017 at the Guildhall in London.

This nomination is a testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication

Councillor Rodwell reacted to the news:

“It really is an honour to be shortlisted for an LGiU and CCLA Award, so I would like to thank anyone who put my name forward,” he said.

“The whole council are doing their utmost to improve Barking and Dagenham for all of our residents, so this nomination is a testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication.”

Councillor Maureen Worby was also delighted to be shortlisted, saying:

“I am pleased to be nominated for this year’s Health and Care Award, alongside four other impressive candidates from across the country.

“Barking and Dagenham has been involved in some innovative and exciting healthcare developments in the past few months, and we will be looking to continue improving standards for our residents over the coming year and beyond.”
