Barking and Dagenham Council have come out on top once again after the Human Resources team secured the ‘Transforming the Working Environment’ award at the Excellence in People Management PPMA Awards.
Having recently won the prestigious Council of the Year and Driving Growth awards at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) awards in London, the council celebrated more success at a gala event in Newcastle.
The Public Services People Managers Association (PPMA) is the association for people professionals in public services and plays a critical role in influencing key decision-makers and stakeholders involved in people management and workforce issues.
The PPMA awards celebrate the best about the association’s work and rewards organisations from local and central government, blue light and health organisations who continue to operate in increasingly challenging circumstances.
The award for transforming the working environment went to the team who displayed their ability to transform the mindset, behaviour and culture and physical changes in the working environment.
The award recognises, celebrates and shares the fantastic work going on every day by our workforce in Barking and Dagenham
Their work will have been aligned with the council’s transformation plans to support cultural change, deliver increased employee engagement, and a workforce that demonstrably delivers the organisations values and planned outcomes.
Barking and Dagenham beat off competition from Leeds City Council and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital NHS Trust to land the big prize.
Gail Clark, Head of Workforce Change, said: “The award recognises, celebrates and shares the fantastic work going on every day by our workforce in Barking and Dagenham.
“Working in and for a public service is increasingly challenging and profoundly rewarding.
“The work of Human Resources and Organisational Development colleagues help to support the council to transform the way that we deliver our services to our community.”
