Council launches recruitment drive to fill waste service vacancies

We have launched our biggest recruitment drive for several years in a bid to fill vacancies in the waste collection service.

In total there are almost 70 vacancies open to hopeful applicants, with roles for drivers, loaders, street cleaners, supervisors, and office-based staff.

The largest number of recruits required are loaders – people who lift bins and waste into the back of the lorry – with 30 posts advertised. The role has a salary between £19,896 and £19,935.

There are 23 driver roles up for grabs, with pay ranging from £20,007 to £24,999 depending on the team within the department.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said the council was pleased to be offering these opportunities.

Creating a cleaner community

Cllr Bright said: “We are searching for people who are committed to helping make a difference and creating a cleaner community.

“I’d especially welcome applications from our residents and encourage women to apply as they are underrepresented in the workforce.”

The council is also seeking five street cleansing operatives to carry out “manual sweeping and use of equipment such as pedestrian sweepers and litter blowers”. The posts have a top salary of £19,935.

There are also two supervisor roles advertised, with a top salary of £30,108, and two support officers with a pay packet worth up to £27,342.

The application deadline for office-based positions is 12 June and the deadline for Loader and Driver posts is 14 June.
