Street Tag is back and it’s bigger and better than before, with several new parks now included in the game that turns the pavement into a giant competition.

The scheme launched last year in Mayesbrook Park, but players will now also be able to take part in Central Park, Eastbrookend Country Park, Old Dagenham Park, Beam Valley Parklands, and Barking Park through to Abbey Green.

The game relaunches on Monday 16 July and will run through until Sunday 9 September.

Prizes worth £2,000 will be up for grabs for the teams that pick up the most points, with more than 100 people having already signed up to take part.

Players are challenged to scan posters, which are dotted around the borough’s parks. The more locations scanned, the more points collected.

Councillor Maureen Worby, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health Integration, welcomed the return of the game.

Cllr Worby said: “I am delighted we are able to bring Street Tag back and that we have been able to expand it so that even more people can get involved.

“It proved a great way of getting people, young and old, up and off the settee and whether people are doing it for a bit of fun or hoping to be the best in Barking and Dagenham, it is a great way for people to get healthier.”

Last year’s winning team, Al Noor, covered over 1,000 miles in their bid to secure the top spot. In total 69 teams took part during the three-month competition.
