Manor Infants School has received a special invitation from Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, to become part of his Schools for Success programme.
The Mayor has recognised that the school has done some fantastic work with students who joined the school behind their peers and have since made huge progress.
Starting in 2017, Schools for Success gives exceptional schools the chance to share their story and the Mayor would like other schools to learn how the Barking school has helped low-achieving students make progress so that it is now in the top six per cent of London schools.
Thelma McGorrighan, Headteacher of Manor Infants School, said: “We are delighted to receive this award and wish to thank all the children, staff, parents and governors who made it all possible.”
To celebrate this recognition, the school has been invited to a special event on Friday 27 September at City Hall where they will be awarded with their school’s certificate.
Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Cabinet Member for Educational Attainment and School Improvement was delighted with the news: “I am proud of the achievements of Manor Infants School. Teachers have worked hard to bring pupils in line with the rest of their year group.
“Well done to the pupils, too. They’re the ones who have made the progress and knuckled down with their teachers. Congratulations, you deserve this recognition.”
9 out of 10 Barking and Dagenham Schools are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.
