Kind hearted pupils from All Saints Catholic School in Dagenham have been raising money for charity whilst celebrating Black British History.

The sixth form students held a whole week of Black History Month themed fundraising events including a quiz, a dance competition and even a fashion show and in total, raised £200 for Sickle Cell UK.

Black History Month has provided the students with opportunity to learn about important events and people from black history and, over the past month, pupils have been given special Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) lessons, teaching them about the challenges and successes faced by black people throughout history.

Clare Cantle, All Saints Headteacher, said: “It’s fantastic to see students embracing Black History Month and using the month to not only raise awareness, but also raising money for a very worthy cause.

“Barking and Dagenham is one of London’s most diverse borough’s and we try to make sure that whatever their identity, our young people feel included and celebrated.”

Black History Month is held every October and celebrates the many contributions people of African descent have made to our lives.
