Pupils at Eastbury Community School became ‘book worms’ for the day as they celebrated World Book Day.

The whole school were encouraged to take part in the international day that is being celebrated for the 22nd year.

Students who had chosen to study art at school were tasked with designing their own book cover in a competition which was judged by the English department, while the rest of the school could take part in a ‘design a book token’ competition.

“I hope all the students enjoyed the day and go home with a new book that they want to read.”

Year 10 students read to children who attend Eastbury Nursery and the English KS3 lessons had book day themes with various activities to inspire reading. 

The early risers could also attend ‘Book breakfast’ club and have a quiet read while eating their first meal of the day.

Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Cabinet Member of Educational Attainment and School Improvement said: “Books are a wonderful way for young people to learn and broaden their horizons.  I am delighted that Eastbury Community School celebrated the day so thoroughly.

“I hope all the students enjoyed the day and go home with a new book that they want to read.”
