Residents of Barking and Dagenham are urged to confidentially identify people who dump rubbish as the latest instalment of the council’s CCTV Appeal has been released.
The latest episode features shameless fly-tipping incidents caught on camera including dumping of washing machines, ‘To Let’ signs, bags of rubbish and even someone urinating next to a bin store.
The council launched the YouTube series last year as part of a campaign to reduce fly-tipping and to create cleaner streets.
In addition to the CCTV appeals, lots of other tactics are being deployed to catch enviro-criminals including strong enforcement and targeted letter drops to fly-tipping hotspots. In 2017/18 the council recovered more than £230,000 for enviro crime fines.
"We are continuing to do everything in our power to take action against these people who think they are above the law and think it is okay to use our streets as a rubbish tip."
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Public Safety, said: "We are continuing to do everything in our power to take action against these people who think they are above the law and think it is okay to use our streets as a rubbish tip.
"Dumping rubbish on the streets is not only against the law but it shows a complete lack of respect for our neighbourhoods and for people who live there.
"We need members of the community to continue to help us to identify and catch the offenders. If you recognise anyone, please let us know – your details and information will be treated with strict confidence."
