Residents are being asked to help identify fly-tippers as CCTV cameras show 14 people fly-tipping within the council’s latest CCTV Appeal film.
The YouTube video series shows footage of people illegally dumping rubbish in fly tipping hotspots across the borough. The enviro-criminals are caught red-handed on CCTV cameras as they shamelessly dumped fridges, shelves, washing machines, sofas and more.
"We have a zero tolerance approach and we’re cracking down hard on the selfish people who mistakenly think they can get away with it."
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “Residents are fed up with irresponsible people who blight our neighbourhoods with their litter and fly-tipping. We have a zero tolerance approach and we’re cracking down hard on the selfish people who mistakenly think they can get away with it.
“We’re using lots of different tactics to catch enviro-criminals including our CCTV Appeals and strong enforcement - in 2017/18 we recovered more than £230,000 for enviro crime fines.
“We also carry out targeted operations and in recent months we have served 28 fines for fly-tipping, littering, and anti-social behaviour in Sunningdale Avenue, Barking with 22 £150 fines for fly-tipping, 4 £75 fines for littering and 2 £100 fines for urinating in public. 26 fines have currently been paid.
“Residents can continue to work with us to help make our streets cleaner. If you recognise an offender, please get in touch in confidence: email us at grimecrime@lbbd.gov.uk or call 020 8724 8898.”
