Discussion with Students

Learning from the River Roding

Learning from the River Roding was an exhibition at Barking Town Hall between 3 and 6 June.

The exhibition is continuing at The Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design in Whitechapel from 19 June to 30 June and is part of the London Festival of Architecture. The exhibits include a 1:1000 model by students of Cass Unit 14, of the River Roding which forms the western boundary of Barking and Dagenham.

Other exhibits on display included a folio of A1 drawings and a book by students inspired by Indian miniature painting and other ethnographic research material including site studies and interviews with local people living in the wards bounding the River Roding.

On 24 June, the students returned to Barking Town Hall and met with Cllr Cameron Geddes, the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Social Housing, to discuss the project in-depth and handed over the collection of drawings that inspired the exhibition, to the council.

It was great to speak to the students of the Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design. Hearing them talk about their project so passionately was a wonderful insight into the work they did for the exhibition.

“I for one was privileged to hear from a group of future architects, and know by the work they presented to us that we have a group of aspiring and talented individuals for the future.

Cllr Cameron Geddes following the meeting said:
