Residents and visitors to Barking and Dagenham are being reminded to take part in a short consultation on how the council can improve air quality in the east London borough.
Earlier this year, (Monday 5 October), Barking and Dagenham Council launched its draft Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP), which outlines the actions it will take to improve air quality for its residents and people visiting the borough over the next five years.
To ensure the council meets the needs of everyone who lives, works, attends school or visits the borough, residents and visitors are being reminded to complete a short survey as they have until Monday 30 November to do so.
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “If you live, work or shop in Barking and Dagenham – or regularly visit for any other purpose, please take a moment to take part in this consultation.
“Poor air quality can have a significant impact on our health, but working together we can improve it and live healthier lives”
Councillor Andrew Achilleos, Member Champion for Climate Change added: “The health of our residents is extremely important to us, so we’re determined to do everything in our power to ensure the quality of air is of a good standard.
“We all need to work together to reach this outcome, so I urge people to share their thoughts with us throughout the consultation.”
Air pollution is associated to a number of health factors, such as heart disease and cancer.
The draft AQAP was produced as part of the London Local Air Quality Management system and people have until next Monday (30 November) to complete the consultation survey.
