Apprenticeship opportunities in construction for local residents

Residents of Barking and Dagenham aged 16 plus and above are being invited to apply for apprenticeship roles in the construction industry, working on building sites across the borough.

The council’s Construction Job Shop will be working closely with Be First and Joe Brennan Training (JBT) to recruit several trade apprentices on various sites across the borough.

To apply, you must be a resident of Barking and Dagenham, aged 16 plus and be willing to work full-time hours (four days on site and one day at college), have the right to work in the United Kingdom and have a National Insurance number.

In addition, applicants will need to have a CSCS card and if they do not already have one, the Job Shop will be able to help them get one. Candidates should also either have completed some training at college or be enrolled on their chosen trade course. The apprenticeship will be for between one and three years.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said: “A few weeks ago we launched the ‘Barking and Dagenham Working Together’ campaign, to make sure residents can easily find support whatever their next step is - whether that’s a step into employment, training or upskilling.

“This is another good example of the council working closely with our partners in both the public and private sector providing training and work opportunities for our residents. I would like to encourage local people to take advantage of this opportunity.”
