Community School’s ‘MoBros’ raise over two thousand for charity

Five members of staff at Eastbury Community School have raised an impressive £2,090 for the charity Movember.

As well as getting sponsored to grow ‘mos’, staff led assemblies to deliver the key messages of the Movember campaign. Movember raises awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. It also supports conversation around mental health to lower the rates of suicide, especially amongst men that find it hard to talk about their problems.

Staff at Eastbury also dedicated pastoral lessons to the campaign and encouraged young people to understand the difference they can make to themselves and to others.

Executive Headteacher, David Dickson, said: “I am so proud of all those who are helping to not only raise thousands of pounds for this extremely worthwhile charity but also to raise awareness of mental health and various cancers.”

Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Cabinet Member for Educational Attainment and School Improvement, said: “I would like to congratulate the dedicated staff at Eastbury Community School for their work to support this worthwhile charity.

“It is vital to encourage conversations around mental health; it has often been seen as a taboo subject or a weakness.

“I commend Eastbury Community School for their work to empower young people to support each other to live healthy, happy lives.”
