Council asks residents to join Recycle Week by getting more recycled

Barking and Dagenham Council is celebrating Recycle Week 2020 and asking residents to do their bit by recycling more to make the borough a greener place.

Residents can also get involved by taking a quiz on our website to test their knowledge of recycling, and be entered in a draw to win twenty £25 vouchers for Morrisons.

Running from 21 to 27 September this year and now in its 17th year, Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling.

This year, the theme is thanking the nation for continuing to recycle despite the challenges of COVID-19, under the banner: “Together – We Recycle”.

This week we’re asking our residents to take a moment to think about how they can recycle more, and a really easy way to play your part is by making sure you’re putting everything you can recycle into your brown bin.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said: “We know our residents are always keen to do their bit to make our borough a greener place, so we know they will want to get involved with Recycle Week.

“This week we’re asking our residents to take a moment to think about how they can recycle more, and a really easy way to play your part is by making sure you’re putting everything you can recycle into your brown bin. Residents can quickly check what they can recycle at lbbd.gov.uk/recycling and it also means you’ll have more space in your grey waste bin.

“And residents should take part in our special recycling quiz! It’s a great way to find out more about how they can continue to reduce, reuse and recycle, with prizes on offer for our Recycling Champions!”

Residents can also take advantage of the council’s Green Garden Waste service, which offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of garden waste such as flowers and grass cuttings, weeds, leaves, and hedge trimmings.

In addition, they can also help avoid waste by donating unwanted clothing to local charity shops, textile banks or recycling bins. This will reduce the UK’s average annual 300,000 tonnes of used clothing being sent to landfill.
