Council’s community food clubs now offering a free service during the COVID crisis

Residents of Barking and Dagenham who are struggling to pay their bills or just want to make their money stretch that little more then they can join the council’s Community Food Clubs and be able to get shopping worth £20 a week for free during the coronavirus pandemic.

Membership of our community food club also gives residents access to a wide range of services, providing advice and support with finances, employment, housing and health.

To qualify, you must be a resident of Barking and Dagenham and be in need of support. Membership will be restricted to one person per household to visit once a week and to just one of our sites over the course of the three-month membership.

Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said:

“Our community food clubs are just one of the ways we have developed to try to get our residents to help themselves and save on their grocery bills. We expect residents who become members of our community food clubs to also make a commitment, with our support to work towards making a positive lifestyle change during the course of their membership.

“It is important that during this pandemic we must all stand together as one community while ensuring we care for and protect the most vulnerable members of our community. As a council we are determined that no one should be left behind.”
