The owners of Crystal Cosmetics (Dagenham) Ltd are feeling money pressures this week after being ordered to pay more than £25,300 for having on sale thousands of products with incorrect labels. 

 

The Dagenham company, based on the Heathway, has been caught selling cosmetic products without labels showing the name and address of the person responsible for safety or listing correct ingredients terms. There are also two further offences concerning restricted and prohibited substances within cosmetic products they had on sale.

 

In March 2016, the company was convicted for selling illegal cosmetics the year before and as part of ongoing monitoring activity, Trading Standard officers visited the shop on 5 July 2017 and discovered yet again that they were breaking the law.

 

Appearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 20 January 2019, the store’s owners pleaded guilty to four offences under the Cosmetics Product Enforcement Regulations 2013.

 

Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “What a great result this is and shows that our initiative to continually check on already convicted companies, works. 

 

“Hopefully this will show other business owners that we don’t accept behaviour like this, and we won’t hesitate to take action.”

 

Crystal Cosmetics (Dagenham) Ltd and its Director, Mr Mohammad Afzaal, were fined £2000 and ordered to pay £10,000 to the council, which both need to be paid in six months and must pay a £13,344.38 confiscation order to be paid within three months. If the defendants fail to make the payments, a six month prison sentence awaits.
