As large outdoor events are sadly at a standstill and all of Barking and Dagenham Council’s ‘Summer of festivals’ event’s outside have been cancelled, we have been making it possible to bring the festival experience directly to people’s homes. This was done recently with the One Borough One Love Festival!
On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, we streamed a weekend of live music, family fun and various workshops. Acts over the weekend included legendary singing sensation Lulu along with reggae greats, Talisman, folk troubadour Beans on Toast, children’s TV presenter Andy Day with his Dino Raps show, Freddie Mercury and Dolly Parton tribute acts, international touring DJ/Dance act, Show Me Love and many, many more including loads of fantastic local music, dance and entertainment acts straight from Barking and Dagenham.
Being able to bring the festival experience to the homes of our residents was such a wonderful idea and all the weekend’s entertainment was fantastic
We want to give people another chance to watch it all over again, as we will have all the entertainment from the festival played out over on the Summer of festivals’ website – http://summeroffestivals.co.uk from 7 October.
This will also include the very special dedications that took place, with surprise performances from the recipients’ streets. These were people who had been nominated for going above and beyond during lockdown and were honoured for all the great work they did.
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement said: “Being able to bring the festival experience to the homes of our residents was such a wonderful idea and all the weekend’s entertainment was fantastic.
“I loved watching all the acts and especially enjoyed being a part of it and speaking about the great work we did with BD CAN, helping vulnerable residents throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. I really hope people will be watching the festival if they missed it last time or get the same joy if tuning in again. I know I will be certainly watching it back.”
People can view the festival again on http://summeroffestivals.co.uk and for up-to-date information on future events visit the Summer of festivals’ Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/Summeroffest
