Another business in Barking has been closed down by council enforcement officers after it continuously refused to follow Covid guidance.



Fish Bazaar on Longbridge Road was told to close its doors for two weeks last Thursday, 8 April by council officers.



Despite several warnings around social distancing and the use of face coverings in the store, the business ignored the advice and continued to operate in an unsafe way.



Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “This has been one of the lucky businesses that has been able to stay open during the pandemic.



“However, it has continued to break the rules and now has to pay the price by facing two weeks without any trading, just as other shops open and the high streets get busier.”



Fish Bazaar has initially been closed for two weeks, until Thursday 22 April, but if significant improvements are made, it may be able to reopen after seven days.



Throughout the pandemic, the east London council has worked closely with businesses to ensure they’re following the rules and will now continue to do so as restrictions are eased.
