East London council shortlisted in the Investors in People Awards 2021

Barking and Dagenham Council has made the final shortlist for Employer of the Year: Gold in The Investors in People Awards 2021. In a record-breaking year for entries, with nearly three hundred organisations involved, this is an outstanding achievement and one that everyone at the council is really proud of.

The Investors in People Awards celebrate the very best organisations and individuals from around the world across various organisational, people, wellbeing and leadership categories. Each year hundreds of organisations from the UK and abroad battle it out to take home one of the sought-after trophies to show their award-winning commitment to investing in their people.

The council’s nomination for the Investors in People 2021 Gold Employer of the Year, follows it’s achievement earlier this year when it was accredited as an Investors in People Gold organisation, making it one of the best employers to work for in the UK.

Our staff are our greatest assets, and this award nomination recognises all of the hard work everyone in the council has been doing, and particularly over the eighteen months as we have done everything we can to support our residents through the pandemic.

Councillor Dominic Twomey, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Core Services said: “There’s only one Barking and Dagenham, and residents drive everything that we do here. Our staff are our greatest assets, and this award nomination recognises all of the hard work everyone in the council has been doing, and particularly over the past eighteen months as we have done everything we can to support our residents through the pandemic.

“Our staff have an overwhelming sense of pride and commitment to the borough – people enjoy working for the organisation and we all want to provide the very best outcomes for our residents. This highly prestigious award nomination is a real testament to that, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our staff.”

Commenting on the award nomination, Claire Symonds, Managing Director of Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “It is a huge privilege to be shortlisted for this award and a clear indication of all the hard work that everyone in Barking and Dagenham Council has been involved in, every single day, to support each other and to do everything we can to deliver the best services for our residents.”

Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, commented: “Now in our 8th year, it always makes me feel immensely proud to see so many fantastic organisations staking their claim to be the best. And every year, the entries get more and more competitive and the judging even tighter. Reaching the final shortlist is a testament to the amazing commitment these organisations are making to make work better for their people, and they truly deserve this recognition.”

The winners will be announced at an online ceremony on 23 November. For the full shortlist and more information about Investors in People please visit www.investorsinpeopleawards.com.
