GOLD award for Barking and Dagenham Council

Barking and Dagenham Council are celebrating after being awarded the prestigious Investors in People Gold accreditation, making it one of the best employers to work for in the UK.

The standard is only achieved by around 17% of organisations assessed, and demonstrates the council’s commitment to support and develop its staff, and reflects how everyone, from the Chief Executive to apprentices, take ownership for making the borough a better place for residents.

In recent years, Barking and Dagenham has been reshaping what a 21st century council looks like, and is highly ambitious and innovative in its drive to unlock the borough’s potential, while ensuring residents benefit from investment and growth, making sure no one is left behind. The council puts residents at the heart of every decision to help improve people’s lives.

We’re absolutely thrilled to have achieved the Investors in People Gold accreditation. This highly prestigious reward recognises all the hard work that everyone in the Council has been involved in to deliver the best services for our residents.

Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Barking and Dagenham Council. Gold accreditation on We invest in people is a fantastic effort for any organisation and Barking and Dagenham is in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.”

Commenting on the award, Claire Symonds, Acting Chief Executive of Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have achieved the Investors in People Gold accreditation. This highly prestigious reward recognises all the hard work that everyone in Barking and Dagenham Council has been involved in, every single day, to support each other and to do everything we can to deliver the best services for our residents.

“I’m so proud of our workforce and I want to thank every single staff member for all their hard work, contributions and dedication because this is a great achievement. The past year has been especially testing for our staff as they’ve had to provide services and support residents through an unprecedented challenge but their goodwill, passion and determination is really admirable.”

Our staff have an overwhelming sense of pride and commitment to the borough – people enjoy working for the organisation and we all want to provide the very best outcomes for our residents.

Councillor Dominic Twomey, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Core Services said: “There’s only one Barking and Dagenham and residents drive everything that we do here. This award recognises all of the hard work everyone in the council has been doing, and particularly over the last year as we have done everything we can to support our residents through the pandemic.

“Our staff have an overwhelming sense of pride and commitment to the borough – people enjoy working for the organisation and we all want to provide the very best outcomes for our residents. It’s an outstanding achievement and I’d like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to all our staff.”
