Barking and Dagenham Council’s seventh Women’s Empowerment Awards ceremony took place this week, recognising and celebrating the outstanding achievements of women across the borough.
The inspirational finalists were chosen by a panel of judges, who also had the difficult task of choosing the ultimate winners of the eight categories on the night at The Broadway Theatre, Barking.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, Councillor Saima Ashraf, said: “I am delighted that we are continuing to honour the amazing, inspirational women of Barking and Dagenham.
“It’s so inspiring to learn more about the heroic stories and work of local women.
“It gives me real pride and excitement for the future generations that will be able to flourish and prosper with the amazing role models we have here in our borough.”
Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills & Aspiration, added: “I am very proud of these awards, which recognise and celebrate the fantastic contributions of women in our borough and the huge positive impact they have on the lives of others.
“This is our seventh Women’s Empowerment Awards, and I know they will really inspire future generations.

Female Parent/Carer of the year – Kimberly Fowell
Female Volunteer of the year – Sue Palmer
Jodie Chesney Young Woman of the year – Katie Savage
Women’s Community Group of the year – Marks Gate Relief Project
Leadership award – Donna Taylor and Jen Taylor
Outstanding Woman of the year – Georgina Alexiou
Anne Estlea Lifetime Achievement award – Zahra Ibrahim
