A Newham driver has been found guilty in court for dropping a cigarette on the public highway.
On (27/04/21) a Barking and Dagenham Council enforcement officer witnessed the driver of a (Volkswagon Sharran) dispose of a cigarette on the public highway down Station Road, Chadwell Heath.
The driver, Mr Blerim Ademai of Bradymead Road, Newham was issued with a £150 Fixed Penalty Notice as an opportunity to discharge liability for the offence. However, Mr Ademai refused to pay the fine and the case went to court.
The case was heard at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Tuesday 3 May 2022 and the defendant pleaded not guilty, however at trial he was ultimately found guilty.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “It’s simple really: respect our borough. We won’t stand for anyone who litters on our streets. I hope this person has learnt their lesson and will use litter bins or take rubbish home with them in future.”
In court Mr Ademai was ordered to pay a fine of £150, costs to Barking and Dagenham Council of £200 and a victim surcharge of £34, totalling £384, which must be paid within 28 days.
