Council set to fly the flag for St. George’s Day

This year, Barking and Dagenham Council hopes residents can find inspiration in the story of St. George, a legendary hero whose story demonstrated strength and courage and overcame the odds to make the world a better place.

The council will be proudly flying the flag of St. George at Barking Town Hall and will be decorating the town square in bunting. There will also be St. George flags decorating Barking Market and we will also share a very special video message, featuring Henry Gregg, Director of Strategy and Culture, wishing residents a Happy St. George’s Day.

Today we celebrate the story of St. George, England’s legendary national hero

The council also hopes residents will join by celebrating this courageous hero and raise their own St George’s flag, by placing it in their windows or getting young ones involved and making one of their own and sharing how they are celebrating this special day.

Henry Gregg, Director of Strategy and Culture said: “Today we celebrate the story of St. George, England’s legendary national hero. This is a time to celebrate heroes, celebrate the bravery and courage of those in our local community but also across the country and the world right now, who are demonstrating bravery every day.

“It’s those people who have the spirit of St. George and are true heroes. To them and to all of you in Barking and Dagenham, I wish you a very Happy St. George’s Day.”
