Barking and Dagenham Council is reminding residents that they still have time to get greener this year by signing up for the 2022 Green Garden Waste Collection service.
If residents sign up before Valentine’s Day, Monday 14 February, they can benefit by receiving all 19 scheduled collections for the year, making it the perfect green gift to give a loved one this Valentine’s Day.
Over 3,590 residents have already signed up this year for the fortnightly service. Costing just £41 per year, the Green Garden Waste service helps residents dispose of their garden waste in an eco-friendly way. As part of the service, the council collects grass cuttings, flowers, weeds, leaves, and hedge trimmings and recycles the green waste to help make our planet healthier for future generations.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said: “With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the Green Garden Waste service makes a really nice gift for a loved one who enjoys taking care of their garden, and the benefits of the subscription last all year! If residents sign up before Valentine’s Day, they can take advantage of all 19 collections so it’s a really good time to sign up for the service.
Spring is the perfect time to get out into the open air and start tending to our gardens once more. We can all do our bit to protect the environment, and one easy way to play your part is by recycling your garden waste with this fantastic service.

“That’s why I encourage as many of our residents as possible to sign up by Valentine’s Day, 14 February. It will really help us to achieve our aim of a cleaner, greener borough going forward!”
The Green Garden Waste service has proved a key part of our effort to meet the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s target of having a 50 per cent recycling rate by 2030.
Launched in 2017, the service saw over 7,500 residents signed up last year. For more information and to sign-up to the Green Garden Waste scheme, click here.
