An operation by Barking and Dagenham Council’s Trading Standards team has resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of counterfeit goods from a trader operating in Barking.
On Tuesday 28 June, enforcement officers visited a stall in Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Barking where a trader was selling items bearing well known trademarks, such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Burberry.
Officers seized several bags, belts watches, shawls, tracksuits and t-shirts along with illicit shisha tobacco products and will now be looking to prosecute the offender.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “This was a great, planned operation, which has resulted in our Trading Standards officers taking a large number of fake goods off of the streets.
“We always welcome traders and businesses to operate in the borough, but they must play by the rules. Any businesses that think of selling fake goods, should please think again as we will seek them out and we will prosecute.”
In total, the council’s Trading Standards Officers seized 154 items.
Residents can confidentially report concerns about businesses that may be selling counterfeit goods, or email the Trading Standards Team at tradingstandards@lbbd.gov.uk.
