The council and the Barking & Dagenham Faith Forum are shocked and saddened by the events unfolding in the Middle East. We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to all those who have been affected by these tragic events, regardless of religion, race, or national origin, and hope that a peaceful resolution can be found.
In Barking & Dagenham we have a proud history of engaging with one another, especially, during times of great stress. As “one borough, one community”, we come together to support each other because we care about each other, we listen to each other and above all because we want to ensure that we can all be proud to be a part of Barking & Dagenham.
We know that incidents like those taking place in the Middle East have far-reaching impacts, and that they may cause distress and concern amongst people in the borough.
We want you to know that the Metropolitan Police have confirmed they will conduct extra patrols in the capital to reassure and protect communities. We will do all we can to continue to support residents in the borough of all backgrounds.

Councillor Darren Rodwell, Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, said: “I know residents here will have friends or family who are directly impacted by the conflict and we stand with everyone who has been affected by these deeply troubling events.
“It’s time for anyone with any influence to do everything they can to end the loss of innocent lives.
“Over the last few days, I’ve been speaking with faith and community leaders, and I understand this is a concerning time for people in our borough.
“We must remember to care about each other, and now more than ever, come together as a community.”
