Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, said, "Today we raise the LGBT+ flag in a display of our commitment to the LGBT+ community. We are proud to celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the LGBT+ community and show our support for diversity and inclusiveness. This year is an important anniversary, as it marks 20 years since Section 28 was abolished, which had a profound impact on local government and in our schools.”

"We must continue to work together to build a more inclusive and respectful society. Today's flag raising ceremony is part of our efforts to celebrate the contributions of the LGBT+ community and promote equality for all."

The council is also encouraging community groups and residents to apply for the Equalities and Diversity Fund, which supports initiatives that promote equality and inclusiveness in the borough. If you have an event that will bring the community closer, the council wants to hear from you.
