Barking and Dagenham’s Eastbury Manor House will reopen its doors from Wednesday 5 April following its closure over the Winter for repairs and maintenance.
Residents and visitors are invited to explore the heritage and history of the house, its gardens and café, and take advantage of a host of free, family friendly spring activities including:
- A series of Family Art Workshops throughout April - art and craft making sessions include spring themed pop-up collages suitable for ages 5yrs+ (up to 12yrs old). Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Free family trails – self guided trails suitable for ages 5yrs+
- Free tours: led by volunteers where visitors can learn about the history and heritage of Eastbury Manor House and the people who lived there over the centuries.
The council is also delighted to announce the appointment of Kirsty Ogg to the position of Curator at Eastbury Manor House. Kirsty brings with her a wealth of curatorial experience, with a background in exhibition making and programme development at both Whitechapel Gallery and Showroom Gallery, and more recently as Director of New Contemporaries where she supported artists at an early stage in their careers.
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, said: “I’m so pleased Eastbury Manor House, our borough’s hidden gem, has reopened its doors for all to enjoy.
“We’ve been working with our partners at the National Trust to build on what this important fantastic heritage site has to offer – a buzzing hub of community-led activity for everyone - so please do keep your eyes peeled for more news on upcoming events and activities.
“We look forward to welcoming local people and visitors alike over the coming weeks!”
