A resident who received a warning from Barking and Dagenham Council about their eyesore garden has cleaned-up their act.
Council enforcement officers visited the property on Cranborne Road, Barking following reports that the front and rear gardens of the home were left resembling a junk yard.
During the visit, officers found old building waste, wooden panels, loose waste items, and evidence of vermin.
The resident was issued with a warning under section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Failure to act would result in prosecution and the council would send the resident the bill for carrying out the clean-up.
When enforcement officers revisited the address, they found the eyesore garden had been tidied up and cleared of all waste.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, said: “We’re really pleased to see the resident responded to our warning and cleaned-up the garden - it’s a dramatic improvement.
“The council will always try to work with people to resolve issues at first - the alternative would have been action which landed them with a bill worth thousands of pounds. The lesson here is to be a considerate neighbour, or face action.”
