Barking and Dagenham appoints New Mayor

Cllr Moin Quadri has taken over the reins from Cllr Donna Lumsden as the new Mayor of Barking and Dagenham. He took over at the annual ceremonial event which took place on Friday 17 May at an Extraordinary Ceremonial Council.

Cllr Quadri has been a resident of the borough for over 20 years and was first elected councillor in 2014, to represent Gorsebrook Ward.

As part of his service to the community, he is currently the Chair of the Pension Committee, served as Chair of the Licensing Regulatory Committee, Safer and Stronger Select Committee and as a member of the Public Accounts and Adult Select Committee Policy Taskforce Group, Planning Committee and the Living and Working Select Committee.

Cllr Quadri works in Finance as a Financial Technology Sales Consultant, specialising in FinTech startups.

Cllr Quadri will be raising funds for his chosen charity Future Youth Zone, which provides opportunities for 8 to 19-year-olds and 25 for those with a disability throughout his Mayoral year.

Cllr Quadri said of his appointment, “I am dedicated to serving with integrity, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to progress. My vision is to cultivate a stronger, more inclusive Barking and Dagenham, where every voice is heard and valued.”

During his Mayoral term, Councillor Quadri’s wife Shammi Quadri will support him as Mayoress. His son Monis Quadri and brother Mr Mamun A Kaderi will accompany him as Consorts.

Cllr Quadri is looking forward to the annual Civic Parade and Service which will take place on Sunday 23 June and hopes as many of our residents can make it. The procession will leave Barking Park at 10.30am.
