Barking and Dagenham parks are ranked fourth best across 25 participating London boroughs in the latest 2024 Good Parks for London report.
The report looks at how London boroughs are performing against ten assessment Good Parks criteria, including public satisfaction, events, supporting nature, community involvement, sustainability, strategic planning and more.
Barking and Dagenham scored an impressive 48.50, achieving particularly well in areas including quality standards, health, fitness and wellbeing, collaboration, strategic planning and sustainability.
Councillor Saima Ashraf, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement, said: “For our borough’s parks to be ranked fourth amongst 25 other participating boroughs is a brilliant achievement. In recent years, we’ve secured over £23m of investment to transform and improve these spaces for the benefit of local people – and this just goes to show how much our parks have continued to improve.
“It’s also a testament to the dedication of our parks team, brilliant volunteers and community groups who roll up their sleeves day in day out to care for our much-loved green spaces.”
Councillor Kashif Haroon, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Climate Change, added: “Our borough’s green spaces are hugely important to the environment and offer many benefits to all of us. We’re very proud that they have been recognised in this way.
“We’re committed to maintaining our parks as part of our drive to make Barking and Dagenham a cleaner, greener place to live.”
The good news comes off the back of seven green flag awards for our borough’s parks earlier this year. Residents can see a full list of all Barking and Dagenham parks and facilities available at https://www.lbbd.gov.uk/love-your-parks
