It is with great sadness and regret that the council announces the death of Councillor Lee Waker.
Councillor Waker was first elected to the council in May 2002 and was re-elected a further five times, representing Village Ward for over 22 years.
He also served as the Chair of the Licensing and Regulatory Committee between 2005 and 2014.
The borough flag is now flying at half-mast as a mark of respect for Councillor Waker’s public service on behalf of Village Ward and the borough.
Councillor Darren Rodwell, Leader of the Council, said: “It is with the deepest regret I inform you of the passing of Councillor Lee Waker.
“Councillor Waker was a well-liked, committed, and respected member of the council whose experience, advice and good humour will be sorely missed.
“On behalf of the council I would like to send Councillor Waker’s family my sincerest condolences and I will keep them in my prayers and thoughts.”
Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
The thoughts of everyone at the council are with his family and friends at this time.
