Fake football merchandise costs market trader hundreds of pounds

A Dagenham market trader who was caught selling counterfeit football merchandise in Barking Market has pleaded guilty at court.

Mr Moises Chicaiza Pinsag of Butler Road, Dagenham, was seen by Trading Standards Officers selling premier league club branded hats and dreamcatchers in Barking Market on 14 June 2022.

The clubs included Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Manchester City.

The council took Mr Pinsag to Barkingside Magistrates Court on Tuesday 16 July where he was ordered to pay a fine of £133, Victim Surcharge of £53 and Costs to Barking and Dagenham Council of £700, totalling £886.

Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “The selling of fake merchandise is often linked to organised crime, so it is important that we stamp it out.”

“I hope this sends a stern warning to other traders who might be looking to do the same. If we catch you, we will take action.”

Residents can report rogue traders to the council by emailing tradingstandards@lbbd.gov.uk.
