Ahead of Halloween and Bonfire night, Barking and Dagenham Council’s Trading Standards conducted several test purchasing operations.
On Wednesday 30 October, a total of 16 premises were tested:
- 11 for corrosives: 1 failed, pending further investigations.
- 5 for knives: All passed.
On Thursday 31 October, in partnership with the Police Town Centre Team, another 16 premises were tested:
- 10 for fireworks: All passed.
- 6 for vapes: 2 failed, pending further investigations.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “Ensuring the safety of our residents is our top priority. These test purchases are vital in identifying and addressing potential risks in our community.
“I hope businesses are aware of these checks and that action will be taken if they’re found selling illegally.”
These operations are part of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety and compliance of local businesses, particularly during high-risk periods.
The council’s Trading Standards will continue to conduct regular checks to uphold safety standards.
