A man from Dagenham who had previously been warned about playing loud music has been found guilty in court and ordered to pay a huge fine.
Council enforcement officers visited 35 Ibscott Close on the 18 August 2023 after a complaint was received regarding loud music coming from the address.
Earlier that year, the tenant Mr Anthony Plume was issued with a Noise Abatement Notice to stop him playing loud music.
When the officers arrived at the address, they instantly heard loud music and shouting throughout the block which was persistent, intrusive and a breach of the Abatement Notice.
Officers knocked on the door and the music stopped. Despite hearing someone behind the door and the officers introducing themselves nobody responded or opened the door.
As a result of him breaching the Notice, Mr Plume was summoned to Barkingside Magistrates Court on 23 April 2024 where he was found guilty in his absence.
The Magistrate ordered Mr Plume to pay a £440 fine, costs to Barking and Dagenham Council of £459 and a Victim Surcharge of £176, totalling £1,075.
Councillor Syed Ghani, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety said: “We’re all for people enjoying themselves and listening to music but there is a limit and people must be wary of the impact on their neighbours.
“This individual had previously been warned about his noise levels and the distress that he was causing to other residents but ignored them. And now because of his ignorance, he has to fork out a huge amount of money.”
