A Licensing led joint operation with Trading Standards Officers from Barking and Dagenham Council has resulted in seizing over 1,500 illegal products from a local business.
On Tuesday 28 May, officers from Licensing and Trading Standards visited a Dagenham business and found it to be selling illicit alcohol, cigarettes and unauthorised medicines. In total they seized:
- 166 bottles of illicit alcohol
- 1,500 illicit cigarettes
- And a quantity of unauthorised medicines
There were also further licensing breaches.
The council expects licensed premises to operate responsibly and have the basics in place to protect public safety including: 0perating a Challenge 25 policy, providing staff training regularly on age-restricted products and alcohol, maintaining a refusals log, installing a till-prompt EPOS system; maintaining fully working CCTV system, displaying part B of the licence in a visible place, not selling illegal and banned products and maintaining an incident book to record any incidents.
Enforcement options are now being considered and the trader could face prosecution and a review of their licence.
