An investigation is under way after a fatal collision in Dagenham.

Police were called at 08:26hrs on Friday 26 January to reports of a woman, believed aged in her 60s, who had suffered injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Leys Avenue, Dagenham.

Officers attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

We are aware of several rumours circulating on social media as to the nature of this incident – this is being treated as a fatal road traffic collision.

Road closures remains in place around the scene.
