Barking and Dagenham Council partners with Queen Mary University London for oral health education event

Barking and Dagenham Council partnered with Queen Mary University London, to host a toothbrushing demonstration for families at Kingsley Hall, Dagenham on Wednesday 9 April.

The event, led by Professor Aylin Baysan, promoted the Healthy Mouth Campaign with information and advice given to over 30 residents on effective oral hygiene practices.

Professor Baysan, a leading expert in Cariology and Minimally Invasive Dentistry at the Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, showcased effective tooth brushing techniques.

Dentistry Master students from Queen Mary assisted with the oral health education demonstrations and residents were given free toothbrushes and toothpaste, along with leaflets on oral health. Information was also shared on mouth care for individuals living with diabetes.

Professor Aylin Baysan said, “It was fantastic to meet the local community and to provide advice on oral health because it’s so important for general health. Taking care of your teeth and gums helps prevent dental diseases and brushing twice a day for two minutes makes a big difference. It has been great working with Barking and Dagenham Council on this initiative and was also a wonderful opportunity for our Minimally Invasive Dentistry Master students to support the community.”

Councillor Dominic Twomey, the Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council said, “We’re really pleased to partner with Queen Mary University London for this fantastic event which has benefitted our residents with advice and support to maintain good oral health. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Queen Mary to promote health and wellbeing in our community.”
