Barking and Dagenham Council launched celebrations for this year’s Women's Empowerment Month by raising the WEM flag on Thursday, 27 February, outside Barking Town Hall, where it will remain for the rest of March.
This year's theme, Accelerate Action, emphasises the importance of taking swift and meaningful steps towards gender equality and women's empowerment. This month is a time to remember the countless inspirational women, both past and present, who have made significant contributions to our community and beyond.
Throughout the month, a variety of activities will take place, including talks, networking events, seminars, workshops and more.
In addition to the programme, this year’s Women’s Empowerment Award winners will be featured on our first online Recognition Wall, where their stories and contributions will be highlighted and honoured.
Councillor Sade Bright, Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills & Aspiration, said: "Women's Empowerment Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in our community. The events planned this month not only honour their contributions but also inspire future generations to continue the legacy of empowerment and equality. With this year's theme, Accelerate Action, we are reminded of the urgency and importance of our efforts."
