Update on Fanshawe Community Hall

Fanshawe Community Association (FCA) signed a lease agreement for Fanshawe Community Hall on 28 July 2022. There is a break clause in the lease every three years where either party can break the lease agreement. We have exercised this right and FCA’s lease will end on 28 July 2025.

This decision should not have come as a complete surprise to the FCA, as we have raised a number of issues with the leaseholder about the running of the building, including health and safety concerns.

We can confirm that Fanshawe Community Hall will not become a mosque, it will continue to be used as a community centre for wider community use and all existing bookings will be honoured. Interim management arrangements are being put in place for the end of July, and then a fair and transparent process to find a longer term leaseholder will be followed. We hope that process will start in August and information about how organisations can apply will be available in due course.

We know how important our community centres and buildings are for local residents and groups, and look forward to working with whichever organisation takes on the lease to ensure the building continues to serve the community and is welcoming to all.
