Service disruptions due to the weather

Information on service disruptions due to the weather

Friday 16 December

Rubbish and recycling collections

The snow, black ice and icy pavements have been disrupting bin collections all week.

Our crews have been trying to catch up through the week and they will be out again tomorrow. If your bin hasn’t been collected this week, please leave it out and we’ll do our best to collect it.

Thank you for your patience.

Schools

Each school has made their own decision regarding opening today and will be communicating directly with parents. Some have decided to open later and some will be closed today. Parents and guardians are advised to check with their child’s school directly for the latest information.

Parks

Thin ice warning on our lakes and ponds.

With the snow and icy conditions set to last for several days, Barking & Dagenham Ranger Service is urging people to stay safe by staying off frozen water.

There are grave dangers of walking on frozen lakes, ponds and waterways when temperatures in the UK stay around freezing, so please take extra care and keep away from frozen water during the cold snap.

The borough has number of deep lakes, ponds and waterways in its parks and open spaces which may freeze this winter and, whilst they may look enticing as a skating opportunity, the ice is a very dangerous place and pose a severe risk to life.

Dog owners must also be careful around frozen water and not throw sticks or balls onto ice. Should a dog go onto the ice and get into difficulty don't attempt to carry out a rescue.
