New CCTV images have been released of people illegally dumping rubbish in Barking and Dagenham as part of the fifteenth CCTV Appeal video. 

Barking and Dagenham Council will help to create safer roads and pavements and a fairer approach to parking across the borough by extending controlled parking zones (CPZs) across more than local 100 roads.

The four zones will be operational from Monday 1 July 2019. 

Only eligible residents and businesses who have applied for a permit will able to park within the zones during set times, and residents will need to purchase visitor permits. 

As part of Women’s Empowerment Month, 14 young women from Barking and Dagenham got an insight into working life at the top with the council’s female senior leadership.

The students from Barking Abbey, Sydney Russell and Eastbury Community schools were each given a senior female employee to follow for the day. 

As part of the day, the students were given an insight into how the organisation works and a glimpse of the day-to-day life at the council and the challenges staff and managers face. 

Two Barking and Dagenham businesses have been fined a total of £2,230 for failing to provide records that showed how they disposed of their waste. 

During a routine trade waste inspection on Wednesday 22 August 2017, council officers visited OM Engineers UK, a car repairs shop at 514 Ripple Road, Barking IG11 9PG. Mr Saju Miah, 36, the shop owner, was asked to produce Waste Transfer Notes for his general and recycled waste, used car parts, waste engine oil and used tyres.

A number of pupils from Sydney Russell School have been selected to be part of their first ever Elite Sports Squad and were congratulated by GB athlete Adam Gemili. 

Students have been selected based on displaying their high levels of sporting talent and commitment to the extra-curricular programme, competing for two sports teams over a year.

Year 10 students from Barking Abbey School got suited and booted on Friday as they took part in a mock interview day.

 

The event which took place at the school, is designed to prepare students for the future when they will be going along to real life interviews at colleges, universities and jobs.

 

The Year 10 students took full advantage of the day and turned up to school dressed to impress in their smartest clothes.

 

Barking and Dagenham council joined employers across the country to lend its support for National Apprenticeship Week 2019 which ran from Monday 4 to 8 March.

The council also used the week as an opportunity to remind residents of the diverse range of opportunities available to apprentices of all ages by encouraging more people to follow their passion and apply for an apprenticeship.

A tyre business and company director have been ordered to pay £2,712 for selling a customer an unsafe tyre.

 

New Broad Street Tyres Ltd in 199 Broad Street, Dagenham sold a customer a ‘part worn’, second-hand tyre which had a nail imbedded in it and which could have caused the tyre to fail. In addition, it was not marked as a ‘part worn’ tyre. 

 

Children from across Barking and Dagenham let their imaginations run wild this week as they celebrated World Book Day.

From dressing up as their favourite character from a book to class story sessions with milk and cookies, many Borough primary schools took part.

World Book Day aims to give every child and young person a book of their own and has been running for 22 years. 

Barking and Dagenham residents are being invited to a public meeting to talk about their concerns on a range of community safety issues. 

The next Barking and Dagenham Safer Neighbourhood Board meeting will take place on Thursday 14 March at the Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club from 6.30pm.
