Free solar panels for Barking and Dagenham homeowners through the Green Homes Grant

Barking and Dagenham Council has joined forces with E.ON and J&J Crumps to ensure eligible homeowners across the borough benefit from up to £10,000 worth of Solar PV (Solar Photovoltaics) panel installs to their home. 

Through the government’s Green Homes Grant, the council has secured £3.3m of funding to carry out energy efficiency and home improvement works to qualifying households. This includes 90 free Solar PV panel installs which involves the generation of electricity using energy from the sun, producing free, green energy that can be used in the home.

Council’s joint action days with the police have positive effect on antisocial behaviour

Barking and Dagenham Council’s initiative to join forces with the police and regularly patrol antisocial behaviour hotspots in the east London borough is bearing fruits.



Last Friday (14 May), council enforcement officers, police officers and Police Community Support Officers were deployed around Barking Town Centre and Dagenham Heathway, where they patrolled the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) areas and conducted weapon sweeps.

Council and police team up again to patrol east London borough

Barking and Dagenham Council and the police are continuing to put on a united front to combat crime in the borough.



On Wednesday (12 May), council enforcement officers and the police joined forces to patrol key antisocial behaviour hotspots – Barking Town Centre and Dagenham Heathway.



The first patrol took them to Barking Town Centre where four enforcement officers and four Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) split into four groups to target the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) area, where they achieved the following results:

Town Hall lit green for Eid
Barking Town Hall to go green for Eid religious celebrations

As the Muslim holy month of Ramadan draws to a close next week, Barking Town Hall will light up green to celebrate the ‘festival of breaking the fast’ – better known as Eid.

 

The colour is synonymous with the religion, often seen on many Islamic nation’s flags and represents celebration, purity and paradise. 

 

Eid comes after followers of Islam have observed a month-long test of their faith, with worshippers undergoing fasting during daylight hours and regular prayers.

Council introduces new policy to support miscarriage sufferers

Men and women who suffer the loss of an unborn baby will now be entitled to time off from work, under plans unveiled by Barking and Dagenham Council.

Employees of the east London council will be able to access up to five days of full-paid leave if they tragically experience a miscarriage.

The new scheme includes employees or their partners and was introduced after a consultation with staff on how to improve the support available.

No life in paradise for Barking restaurant as it’s fined a huge fee

An Indian restaurant has been ordered to pay over £500 after it failed to provide documents showing how it disposes of its waste.



Eastern Paradise of Ripple Road, Barking was visited by Barking and Dagenham Council enforcement officers during a routine trade waste inspection on Tuesday 14 January 2020, but when asked to provide their Waste Transfer Notes, they failed to do so.

Council celebrates 72-year-old super volunteer

Local resident, John Janes, who at age 72 continues to volunteer his time across numerous local services, has added another feather to his cap by volunteering at the Broadway Theatre vaccination centre.

John currently does an evening shift at the vaccination centre working from 7 to 10pm. In addition, he also volunteers as a Poppy organiser for the British Legion, and for the NHS voluntary service, Red Cross, Royal Naval Association and the Standard Bearer for the Borough colours.
