Barking business receives meaty fine for failing to display a ‘No Smoking’ sign

A meat processing and preservation business in Barking has been fined nearly £1,400 after one of their vehicles was caught not displaying a ‘No Smoking’ sign which is a requirement by law.



On the 27 November 2019, a vehicle belonging to ACM Meat Factory Ltd of River Road, Barking, was stopped by council enforcement officers during one of many routine multi-agency operations in the borough to check vehicle particulars.

Barking and Dagenham Council to hold Public Space Protection Order Q&A

Residents of Barking and Dagenham are being encouraged to join a virtual Q&A session to discuss the future of the Heathway Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).



The Q&A session which will take place on Microsoft Teams, is part of a wider consultation, which has already included an initial survey which revealed that 90.2% of residents would support the continuation of the PSPO in Dagenham Heathway.

Makers Market
Barking Makers market kicks off this weekend

It is also an opportunity to encourage new business ideas and skills as it will see the market expand into the Town Square area, providing an opportunity for local businesses to test the local market and promote their products.



It will welcome around 27 new market stalls as part of a ‘Makers Market’, supported by the government's Reopening High Streets Safely Fund, and will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays from Saturday 17 July until mid-September, subject to government Covid guidance.

East London council teams up with primary schools to tackle youth violence

Barking and Dagenham Council has teamed up with local primary schools to launch the third phase of its Lost Hours campaign in a bid to tackle youth violence and exploitation. 



The Lost Hours campaign launched with a two-month borough-wide communications campaign in August 2020. The campaign kicked off with a hard-hitting short film featuring the voices of local people who have been affected by youth violence, including parents who have tragically lost children.

Knives banned sign
East London schools staff trained to tackle knife crime

Barking and Dagenham Council teamed up with Excel Training Solutions to help schools reduce the risk of students taking knives, and other prohibited items into schools. 

 

Staff in ten schools took part in the course' Risk Reduction Through Search and Confiscation - Training for Trainers'. The training includes observational demonstrations and practising search techniques to give staff the ability to perform searches for unauthorised items when reasonable.

P.E teacher Hannah Whitfield
East London teacher bags prestigious award

PE teacher, Hannah Whitfield, has been awarded the Dallaglio RugbyWorks Teacher of the Year Award for her work with young people at Mayesbrook Park School in Barking and Dagenham.



The Dallaglio Foundation, founded by former England rugby player, Lawrence Dallaglio in 2009, engages young people through the power of sport, giving them the means and inspiration to change their lives for the better.



Hannah discovered she had won the award during a virtual awards ceremony hosted by Lawrence Dallaglio and Zenna Hopson.

Councillor Carpenter planting memorial tree at Manor Junior School
Barking school plants COVID-19 memorial tree

Manor Junior School in Barking planted a tree of hope last week in memory of those who have suffered during the pandemic.



The school welcomed special guests Councillor Evelyn Carpenter, Councillor Lynda Rice, Headteacher of Barking Abbey Tony Roe, and the school’s board of governors.

The planting of a tree is something current, and future generations can come together to enjoy too - it draws us together to remember and commemorate.
